Since getting an iPhone I pretty much use that as my iPod, and use my old video iPod in my car. I have a Scion XD, which features a handy little iPod hookup, so the whole thing works out nicely and there aren't wires hanging everywhere and I have to worry about setting the radio to 88.7 or whatever to make the iPod work. I cannot express how much I value having a built in iPod adapter in my car. After driving three cars with various accoutrements for iPod play getting all tangled and broken, the iPod adapter I have in my Scion is fucking glorious.
So I have what, 5,000 songs to choose from while I'm cruising around? I typically put my whole music library on shuffle and leave the iPod plugged in all the time, but even then I've only ever gone through like, 2,000 songs, max. Plus, sometimes I'm in a very specific mood, and when I'm in a mood and shuffle is not cooperating with said mood, you better watch out. I'm serious, People of the Roads, you better not hope I'm in a Bob Marley mood when Wolfmother comes on because I may just make AN ILLEGAL RIGHT TURN ON RED.
Lately though, I haven't been victim to the iPod Shuffle Kerfuffle, because I've been listening to the same playlist EVERY TIME I drive anywhere. A little over a month ago it was one of my kiddo's birthdays, and this kid absolutely loves to have dance parties. Naturally I made her a mix CD of kickass dance tunes, and even created a CD cover that is, frankly, mindblowingly awesome. I normally put a lot of work into mix CDs, and this one is one of my greatest creations yet. Sadly, my computer is an old hag and refused to burn a CD, so the playlist has been living solely on my iPod and phone. The birthday girl didn't get to dance to the best CD of all time on her third birthday, but at least we get to jam out to the playlist in the car. Plus, I get to share my genius with you, my adoring public. I recommend you make a playlist of all these songs for your own enjoyment - it will change your life in the most badass, awesome, hyperbolic way.
